Zinfandel
Talty ~ 92 points
William Talty Vineyards 2004 ~ Dry Creek Valley
7%
Petite Sirah; 3% Carignane. Attractive themes of fully ripe berries are
framed with a fine complement of creamy oak in the moderately intense,
keenly varietal aromas of this inviting Zin, and, once in the mouth, the
wine lives up to expectations with open, well-concentrated fruit and oak
flavors that pack plenty of punch. There are touches of briar and dark
chocolate scattered about here and there, and there is a bit of unneeded
heat breaking through at the finish, but the wine's admirable depth and
unwavering fruity focus keep it on the fast track to success. $35.00

Talty Winery Zinfandel
2003, Filice Connolly Vineyards, Napa Valley
The
single most exciting wine of the trip, which is saying quite a bit. This
is so pure and focused it's like a bolt of lightning, but, unlike so many
of today's big
Zinfandels, it's not overly alcoholic or sweet, so it's drinkable and
good with food. Remember
the name of this Sonoma Winery; you'll be hearing it.
